Tobacco CessationCigarette smoke harms nearly every organ of the body. According to the Centers for Disease control, cigarette smoking accounts for nearly one out of five deaths annually in the U.S. Smoking directly contributes to heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, bronchitis and chronic airway obstruction, as well as lung cancer and many other cancers.
Smoking can also increase the risk for preterm delivery and low birth weight, as well as put elderly women at increased risk for hip fracture.
