Fire Safety/Burn Prevention
Every effort is made by Lee County Injury Coalition members to provide residents of Southwest Florida with the information they need to reduce injuries, death and property loss due to unintentional fires and burns from scalding liquids.

Each year approximately 116,600 children are treated for burn- and fire-related injuries. More than 500 children ages 14 and younger die due to these unintentional injuries. Yet many times these tragedies could be prevented with a few easy modifications to the home or teaching children what to do in case of a fire emergency.

The best way to prevent an emergency is to prevent it from happening. A number of safety education programs are available for all age groups, from children to seniors. In addition, free fire and smoke alarms are available. Fire truck demonstrations can be arranged.

Public Education provides a large number of safety and education programs to the community for all age groups and in a variety of settings - in preschools, schools, businesses, health care facilities, community organizations, public gatherings, and the fire stations.  Additionally, using a wide range of education delivery methods reaches all ages in creative ways, including Fire Safety Clowns, puppet shows and Ember, the Dalmatian.

Some of the programs offered include:
  • Slip & Fall Prevention
  • Kitchen and Cooking Safety
  • Holiday Safety
  • Outdoor burning
  • Senior Safe Programs
  • Free Smoke Alarm and Carbon Monoxide Detector Programs
  • CPR, First Aid and AED Training
  • Child Passenger Safety and Seat Installation
  • DUI Safety Programs
  • Community Event Assistance
  • CERT Training (Community Emergency Response Team)
  • Drowning Prevention
  • Victim Assistance
